Sitting in the rheumatologist's office. (Thursday)
Appointment time was 9 a.m.
It's now 12 minutes after. I am thinking about all the things to tell the doctor and realizing I just might cry if I'm not careful. Fibromyalgia is really getting me down.
Ok, here is the doctor, gotta run!
After seeing the doctor:
I told her how I have been feeling much worse, especially with the fatigue. She said the 2 big things for Fibromyalgia are good quality sleep and exercise. I told her exercise has been difficult because I feel so bad. She suggested then wrote a referral for water aerobics therapy.I now need to call my insurance to see if they cover it at all.
I also talked to her about my thoughts about seeing a psychiatrist to get help with dealing with a chronic condition like Fibromyalgia and for my Trichotillomania (chronic hair pulling). She was quick (VERY!) maybe too quick (lol) to agree and she told me she thought it was a great idea, that she wished ALL her patients would, that she thinks it would be very helpful, but advised to go to a psychiatrist, not just a counselor/therapist. I said I agreed, because I have been to a therapist before for the hair pulling. The idea here is that a psychiatrist is going to know a lot more about chemicals in the brain and how to help me out with everything. I did find a neurologist/psychiatrist on my insurance plan, but they are all about 25 miles away and I'm not sure I'm up for that. So I'll call the insurance company for the mental health referral.
Now this leads to another gripe. You know how they always tell us "mental health issues are no different from any other sickness, there should be no shame, yadda yadda,' well then why aren't they listed on the insurance company's website? I have to call a separate mental health number? The neurologist/psychiatrist I found was only listed because of the neurology listing. Anyway, I'm just saying that if you REALLY feel it's no different from other illness, then why is it listed separately and we feel even weirder? Anyway, that kind of pisses me off, I'll be honest.
But overall I was pleased with this last rheumy visit. I think a lot was accomplished.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you, she said that we don't have to worry about Fibromyalgia damaging joints or tissues, it just FEELS terrible. So she told me whether or not to take ANY medication for it is up to me, that it depends on how much I can tolerate. She said she has some Fibromyalgia patients who have opted to not take anything but just cope with it. Cope with it. Yes, I will need a psychiatrist! Sigh.
