Visualizations for pain?

Most of the time, I think I cope with Fibromyalgia pretty well. But I have my breakdown moments when the pain just gets very intense. Like tonight, it got bad on me in a wave - like a tidal wave.

I was thinking, "If it is going to be like this day after day, I hope I don't live very long because I can't take this!" And I started to cry, which is okay because it usually eases the pain.

Then I started visualizing the pain in my body blue neon lines (like those medical diagrams of the body's nerves) radiating outward, and I worked on visualizing them turning a pretty green and then blooming into flowers. I couldn't keep the visualization up very long but I think it helped.

I'm going to try this more. If we can have a nightmare and change elements in our dream stated, then why shouldn't I be able to alter my pain state with visualization?

Just an idea & wondering if you have ever tried it?
